Here is a second column that will allow you to discover how mentoring is used on the other side of the Atlantic.
During a group interview carried out in August 2008, in which eleven people from various professional fields participated, we observed certain differences between participants from the field of education and those from private sectors (manufacturing industries etc.)
The former perceive mentoring above all as a privileged interpersonal relationship where “things happen between the two parties […], where it’s a bit magical”, whereas the latter see mentoring more as a process allowing a business’s objectives of growth and development to be met.
These ideas lead us to believe that mentoring takes on different “faces” according to the working context the participants belong to.
